Aftercare basics...
- Leave your bandage on for 3 hours minimum. It needs time to start closing up all those tiny holes we put in you.
- Wash Tattoo as soon as you remove the bandage. Wash with fingertips only.
- Pat Dry with a soft clean towel.
- Air Dry for a few minutes.
- Moisturize well.
- Repeat at least twice the day you get your tattoo.
- Wash, Rinse, Dry and Moisturize twice a day for 2 to 3 weeks.
Aftercare Pro-Tips !
- Absolutely wash it 3-5 times when you remove the bandage! Use fairly hot water (but don't scald yourself)
- Absolutely use Original Blue Dawn Dish soap. It is fast, it is gentle and it isn't full of poison, since 1973.
- Pat dry then air dry for about 15 minutes. Do not trap any extra water under your moisturizer.
- For the first 3 days, use A&D 3 times a day, and slightly thick. It is kinda greasy, but it really calms down those 3 days!
- Absolutely use A&D ointment. It has been moisturizing tattoos since the 1940s.
- Starting on day 4, wash more often. Try washing about 5 times. It helps wash those old dead skin cells away.
- Starting on day 4, start using a basic non-scented lotion instead of A&D. Curel Unscented Daily Healing Lotion for the win!
- Starting on day 8 and lasting for 2 weeks, cut everything back a bit. Wash and moisturize twice a day.
- Let your body do it's job too. If you always mess with your tattoo, it will react. Think of someone always rubbing your arm...like ALWAYS! At some point all that rubbing will go from "Hey, that's AWESOME!" to "Touch me again and I will smash your face!" You know it, I know it... we all know it.
Bottom line.
- There are as many aftercare instructions as there are people on this earth. Every day, somebody is doing something new.
- There are a lot of products people use to take care of their tattoos. Some of it is pure marketing, some has a real history of results.
- There are only a few things to do. Wash, Dry, Moisturize then leave it alone. Also only use what your studio or artist recommends.
- Do EXACTLY what your tattoo artists and you agree to for aftercare. If you change up the aftercare because you are doing what your cousin Darrel tells you to do, or you are doing the latest internet trend... that is a good way for you to be liable (read as "legally stuck") if your tattoo healing doesn't go well. All sign in and tattoo consent forms will specify that you must follow the studio's or artist's aftercare instructions. if you don't, any thing that negatively affects your tattoo is 100% your fault. Facts.
